INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The ANGRAJAZZ \u2013 International Jazz Festival of Angra do Hero\u00edsmo, is an event organized by a non-profit cultural association \u2013 Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Cultural Angrajazz \u2013 with the support of the Municipality of Angra do Hero\u00edsmo, the Regional Government of the Azores through the Regional Directorate of Culture and the Regional Directorate of Tourism, as well as private sponsors.<\/p>\n

It takes place annually in Angra do Hero\u00edsmo, Terceira Island, Azores, a city in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean considered a UNESCO World Heritage site.<\/p>\n

The first edition was held in October 1999, and since then, it has been held annually around the October 5th holiday.<\/p>\n

Until 2003, the festival was held in the cloister of an 18th-century convent, which houses the Museum of Angra do Hero\u00edsmo. From that year onwards, Angrajazz moved to the Cultural and Congress Center of Angra do Hero\u00edsmo, a former bullring renovated into a cultural center.<\/p>\n

The semi-circular auditorium is transformed into a large jazz club, with a capacity for 550 people, where the musicians are very close to the audience, creating a very genuine and intimate atmosphere.<\/p>\n

OBJECTIVES<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Angrajazz is a deliberately generalist festival, whose main objective is to promote and develop a taste for jazz in the Azores, while also establishing a presence in the annual national jazz calendar due to its high quality.<\/p>\n

Some of the concerts held over the various editions of this festival have been listed among the best concerts of the year in Portugal, as determined by national critics.<\/p>\n

The Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Cultural Angrajazz has also organized, during the festival, training sessions for local bands, as well as other parallel activities \u2013 conferences, exhibitions, cinema, and others.<\/p>\n

As a result of some of these training sessions, the ORQUESTRA ANGRAJAZZ was formed in July 2002, making its first appearance at the festival\u2019s fourth edition, under the direction of musicians and teachers Pedro Moreira and Claus Nymark.<\/p>\n
